Aluminum hydroxide, a component of the pharmaceutical products used to treat various types of medical problems, is the active ingredient in the generic prescription drug Levoxyl® (“Levoxyl®”).
Aluminum hydroxide is a white to off-white crystalline powder. It is used in the treatment of fluid retention (edema) and pain. It is in the treatment of inflammation of the skin, the nervous system, and the cardiovascular system (heart, blood vessels, lung, heart and other organs).
Aluminum hydroxide is the base of most prescription medications for the symptomatic relief of edema and other associated symptoms. It is also used to treat the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia (thromboembolic events), and to treat certain types of cancer. It is used in the treatment of hypercalcemia, the nephrotic syndrome, and in the treatment of the infection of the urinary tract (pyelonephritis).
Aluminum hydroxide is the main ingredient of many prescription and nonprescription medicines.
Aluminum hydroxide is available in different forms, including granules, in the form of tablets or capsules, and in liquid suspension. Each form may be used on a particular basis (e.g. tablets, capsules).
